Australia Travel Tips
Bring a converter AND adapter (evidently, they're different, which I did not know and almost blew out my straightener as a result)
Get the TRS app - it allows you to get money back at the airport for taxes you spent while shopping in Australia
Get AUD money from your local bank before going, will save you a lot on international fees which you’ll have to pay when using a card
Check the weather ahead of time and avoid being stuck in the rain like I was in Melbourne, plan around it
Stay in Paddington, Surry Hills or Bondi in Sydney
Stay in St. Kilda in Melbourne
Make friends on dating apps to hang out with while there (of course be careful and smart when doing this)
You can drink the water there, don’t worry
Figure out what concerts, festivals etc. will be in the cities during your visit and if you’re into that sort of thing, get tickets in advance (I’m kicking myself for not staying in Sydney for a few more days for a festival they had there right after I left)
Bring sunscreen but also a jacket because weather fluctuates easily
Try vegemite, even if you’ll probably hate it
Be sure to take day trips or tours to see the beautiful nature and wildlife outside of the main cities
Watch a lot of Australian television before you go so you can understand their accents - I had no clue what half of them were saying to me LOL
Be prepared to spend money, prices in Australia are comparable to Los Angeles and New York = $$$$
Pack light so you can take things back, there’s a lot of great shopping
Coffee is better in Australia so get ready to be constantly hyper
For some reason, Australian parents leave their babies in their strollers and just walk away a lot in Australia - don’t be alarmed, apparently this is normal there
Learn Aussie slang before you go because there’s a lot of it and it’s very, very weird. For example, dead horse means ketchup (don’t ask me why)
